About Trip:
Upper Mustang Trekking is an excursion to the previous veiled Kingdom of Lo. It was inexplicable for centuries and revealed as a gem to explore for the adventure lovers, including in restricted area list since 1992. You need to obtain a special trekking permit for this caravan route exploration dotted with the colorful monasteries, sandy caves, chhortens and the cultural hub of the Upper Mustang region- Lomanthang.
Upper Mustang trek begins from Jomsom after a short Himalayan flight from the city of Lakes to the Himalayan paradise. Embarking along the Kali Gandaki River bank reaches to Kagbeni, which is an ancient and significant cultural destination for the Hindu and Buddhist devotees.
Following the historical caravan foot loaded with the hidden cultural gem, you will be awarded with the historical and colorful monasteries, chhortens and mani walls. The white washed walls of the traditional settlements and the arid landscape gradually leads you to the delighting cultural center of the Upper Mustang, Lomanthang, which is surrounded by the stone walls.
Exploring around Lomanthang, you will get an outstanding experience to discover the centuries old living standards, Tibetan Buddhist cultural weight, monasteries, seasonal wild flowers, and buckwheat and barley fields along with the caves. Trip Itinerary
The Adventure High Pass representative will welcome you and transfer you to the hotel at the international airport in Kathmandu. The rest of the time is for you to prepare for the trek and buy the essential gear around the local market. Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, we tour the delighting UNESCO-listed world heritage sites dating back to the mediaeval period. The Hindu temple Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhuanth Stupa are the major highlights of a day sightseeing tour. Managing another day, you can cover other destinations. Then back to the hotel and rest. Overnight at lodge.
The day begins with a scenic drive through the Prithvi highway, enjoying the views during the driving. Usually, it’s about 6 hours, but due to traffic, sometimes it may take 7-8 hours. Then transfer to the hotel at the lakeside. It is a beautiful town, surrounded by Lakes. Overnight at lodge.
The early morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom offers the dramatic Himalayan scenery of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri chain. This half an hour flight lands at Jomsom, the district center of Mustang. Then the trek embarks along the bank of the Kaligandaki River and takes a rest at Kagbeni, which is a gateway of the Upper Mustang. Overnight at lodge.
Good morning beautiful Kagbeni, a historically significant place, located at the juncture of two Rivers. Then we begin the trek, following the Kali Gandaki River bank. It leads gradually to the Tangbe village and the Chhusang villages, which are white washed and beautiful Tibetan Buddhist settlements. Then we pass through the narrow trail and reach to Chele, which is culturally a loaded town. Overnight at lodge.
Beginning the trek from Chele, we head through the westward trail that offer the scene of Ghyakar, situated at the opposite side of canyon. Then we trek down to the Samar village, which offers us an opportunity to explore the renowned Rangchyung chhorten and red painted monastery. With a gradual walk, we reach to Syangbochen. Overnight at lodge.
After a breakfast at Shyangbochen, we start to ascend to the Yanda La Pass, ascertaining the red painted Chhorten and diverse Tibetan Buddhist magnetisms. Passing Ghelung, we chase the grassy trail. Then we climb up and cross the Nyi La Pass. Then we follow the route of Ghami La Pass, walk continually upto the Ghami village. Overnight at lodge.
After the breakfast at Ghami, we begin the excursion today passing the longest Mani wall of the Upper Mustang. It is festooned with the astonishing carvings. Things are painted red that offer the distinctive vista around the area. Then we move progressively during the Tsarang Chhorten and start to see the communities again on the route. We reach to our destination- Tsarang and rest. Overnight at lodge.
A beautiful and remarkable trekking today begins from Tsarang through the historical trail with several sandy caves. We often encounter with the incredible landscape dotted with wild flowers. After climbing to the crest, the breathtaking scenery of the stone walled town of Lomanthang cheers you up. Here we come Lomanthang, the capital of Upper Mustang and an ancient culturally magnificent town. Overnight at lodge.
This is a beautiful and remarkable day to explore the hidden gems of the Upper Mustang- around Lomanthang. Explore the ancient monasteries, colorful chhortens and the parts covered with the prayer flags. Namgyal Monastery, visit to the Tingkhar village, Jhong cave (5 stories) and others are unbelievable. We leave Lomanthang after the breakfast and take another route than we took while coming. Mostly, the trail is flat, but with few up and down route for the destination today, which is Yara. Overnight at lodge.
After having breakfast at Yara, we head through the River bank via Damodar Kunda, which is a popular destination for the Hindu pilgrimage devotees that have been mentioned in the Hindu mythologies. Reaching the crest, the beautiful view of the Tange village offers a delighting memory. Then trek gradually down to Tange and take a rest. Overnight at lodge.
After having a breakfast at Tange, we walk through the uphill trail and enjoy the scenery of the arid landscape backgrounded by the incredible Himalayan panorama, Crossing the Chhachula pass, take a gentle downhill trail to Tetang, aka Upper Chhusang village. Overnight at lodge.
From Tetang, ascend through the steep route and the gorge. Enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan peak, known as the Thorung peak. It is an amazing fact that weather in Mustang region remains amazing more often as it lies in the Himalayan rain shadow area. Then head to Muktinath, which is a sacred pilgrimage destination of the Hindu and Buddhist devotees. Take a rest and explore the holy land of the Nepal Himalayas. Overnight at lodge.
The morning in the sanctified land is astounding. Devotees go to the temple and worship. The temple, 108 sprouts and a sacred pool are significant. After the breakfast, explore around and begin to walk, hiking down towards the Jharkot and Lupra. Joining the Kali Gandaki trail, walk all the way through the dusty route, which is recommended to cross before the noon to avoid the sandy dusts. Jomsom is the district center, where today's trek concludes. Overnight at lodge.
Taking a half an hour flight from Jomsom to Pokhara is a magnificent experience. Then transfer to the hotel and be refreshed. After a short rest, take a short city sightseeing tour in Pokhara that includes Fewa Lake, Devi’s water fall, Gupteshower cave and more. Overnight at hotel.
It’s a continual 6-7 hours drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu with lunch stops. The winding road and the Riverside valleys are wonderful. Arriving Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel and rest. Overnight at hotel.
After a wonderful excursion in the Annapurna and Mustang Himalayas, it's time to bid farewell and wish you a safe flight to your further destination. Our representative will drop you at the airport.
